Description

Chinese New Year Maths Activity: Ancient China Maths Escape – Dragon Adventure – Digital + Printable Version.

Students are transported to ancient China and must use their math skills to complete a maths quest. This is a great activity for Chinese New Year, or any time of the year!

Five scrolls (pages) are given to the students and each scroll (worksheet page) takes them further along their quest – to find the dragon’s lair.

  • Scroll 1. Hidden multiplication message (with Chinese numbers)
  • Scroll 2. Map with long addition and subtraction.
  • Scroll 3. Chinese Zodiac (years)
  • Scroll 4. Choose the right path (decimal addition/order of operations).
  • Scroll 5. Choice the right amount of treasure – basic algebra.

Now added is a full animated digital version. It is attached to a Google slide presentation so it can easily be shared with your students via Google classroom. It is, however, not made it in Google slides, which means it has more functionality and contains animations, clickable buttons, movable pieces, background music, and more. There is also a short introduction video with this version. Look in the preview for some screenshots of this activity in action.

Pack also includes three extension activities for early finishers – a number puzzle, a writing activity and a drawing activity.

Answer sheets provided.

Maths Topics: Multiplication, 3 digit addition subtraction, cardinal directions, logic, decimals, fractions.

Year Level: Year 5 – Year 8
