This resource provides follow-up activities for 12 of the current Ready to Read Phonics Plus Tupu Seeding Level readers found in New Zealand schools. An engaging format is used to develop your students’ sense of agency and independence – perfect for your reading rotations.

These activities meet many of the requirements for the New Zealand Literacy Skills Progressions for Reading at the End of Year One. These are skills that your students need!

In this pack you will receive:

1. 24 engaging follow-up activities (two per reader):

  • Each activity sheet has a QR code to an audio link and picture cues to help students understand their task.

  • matching words and pictures
  • sequencing the story
  • vowel teams
  • target word cloze activities
  • word finds
  • digraphs
  • making text-to-self connections

Each book in the series has two pages of activities to match the instructional focus. Teachers can choose for students to complete one or both of the sheets, depending on the goal of the lesson.

The activities have been created to specifically match the focus sounds taught in each book. There are also QR codes for students to listen to the book again, and decoding and writing practice activities.

With initial modelling and scaffolding, these activities are intended to be completed independently to build students’ skills in following instructions, fine motor skills, and stamina to complete a task.
