Description

Save your time and know that your students are completing follow-up activities featuring a range of reading and fine motor skills. This resource provides follow-up activities for the current Ready to Read Phonics Plus Rākau Tree level readers found in New Zealand schools. An engaging format is used to develop your students’ sense of agency and independence – perfect for your reading rotations.
 
These activities meet many of the requirements for the New Zealand Literacy Skills Progressions for Reading at the End of Year One. These are skills that your students need!
 
***This resource is provided in A4 paper size and British spelling.***
 
In this Ready to Read Phonics Plus Rākau Tree pack you will receive:
 
1. 10 engaging follow-up activities (two per reader):
  • Each activity sheet has a QR code to an audio link and picture cues to help students understand their task.
  • Click here to see a list of all the titles included in this resource and to access PDF versions of the readers.
 
The five readers included are:
  • Tinā at School
  • On the Forest Floor
  • Tumble and Turn
  • A Colourful World
  • We Belong
 
Please note, if/when more readers are added, we will add them to this resource – up to 10 readers in total).
 
2. A range of engaging activities including:
  • compound words
  • using and understanding suffixes
  • making text-to-self connections
  • word finds
  • cloze activities
  • syllable counts
 
Each book in the series has two pages of activities to match the instructional focus. Teachers can choose for students to complete one or both of the sheets, depending on the goal of the lesson.
 
  • The activities have been created to specifically match the focus sounds taught in each book. There are also QR codes for students to listen to the book again, and decoding and writing practice activities.
  • With initial modelling and scaffolding, these activities are intended to be completed independently to build students’ skills in following instructions, fine motor skills, and stamina to complete a task.
 
Please note: To use this resource, you need to have access to the Ready to Read Phonics Plus Rākau Tree level readers. These are found in NZ schools and here.
