Description

These activities have been created to specifically support the teaching and learning of the target sound and letter /r/.

With initial modelling and scaffolding, these activities are intended to be completed independently to build students’ skills in following instructions, fine motor skills and stamina to complete tasks.

This Phonics and Structured Literacy Activities: Focus Sound R resource includes:

Three practice activities:

  • Colour-Sound Match: Students look at pictures and find and colour words that have the /r/ sound. Students count and write how many pictures contain the /r/ sound.
  • Ending sounds: Students add the target letter to the end of each word. Students draw a picture to match the new word.
  • Handwriting Practice: Students trace over the letters and words using the target sound.

One hands-on activity:

  • Spin and Cover
