Description

These activities have been created to specifically support the teaching and learning of the target short vowel sound and letter /j/.

With initial modelling and scaffolding, these activities are intended to be completed independently to build students’ skills in following instructions, fine motor skills and stamina to complete tasks.

This Phonics and Structured Literacy Activities: Focus Sound J resource includes:

Three practice activities:

  • Match the Words: Students draw lines to match the target words (starting with the target sound) to the pictures on the right. Students write each letter sound in the word underneath the picture.
  • Decode and Draw: Students decode and read each sentence. Students draw a picture that matches each sentence.
  • Listen and Write: Students look at each picture. Students circle each sound in the word from the letters provided and write the word.

One hands-on activity:

  • Beginning Sound Clips
