Our New Zealand Junior Journal 58 Follow Up Activities has everything you need to dive into the story and articles within this publication. Both a paper-based and digital option are included so you can use this in the way that suits you best – great for distance learning.

The NZ Junior Journal 58 texts that we have featured are:

  • The Kiwileles (article)
  • The Ukelele Maker (article)
  • Rāhui (story)

This resource features:

1. 3 x Lesson plans
A lesson plan is provided for each story/article covered in this resource:

2. 3 x Follow Up Activity Sheets
A one-page activity sheet is provided for each story or article covered in this resource.

Each activity sheet contains a range of reading comprehension strategies including:

  • Use prior knowledge
  • Find information
  • Use vocabulary
  • Make connections
  • Sequence
  • Compare and contrast

These one-page activity sheets also include links to further activities and ideas. The links help students to explore the topic of the story or article further. QR codes and web links are provided so students can visit websites, listen to audio clips, and watch video clips.

Each activity sheet also features a design/create challenge. This encourages students to use higher-order thinking to synthesise their knowledge and create something new.

3. Paper-based and digital activities are provided
