Description

The purpose of this Independent Literacy Activities Year 2-4 resource is to provide independent literacy activities for your Year 2-4 students to complete while you are working with other groups.

Choices are provided to give your students agency, and a range of activities are provided so students can practice a variety of important literacy skills.

The activities are presented and levelled in such a way where students can complete these without needing to interrupt you to ask lots of questions. We’ve also provided a version with no Year 2-4 heading so that you can use this with students at all levels.

These activities would work as part of any literacy rotation you run in your classroom. They could also be homework tasks or be used by early finishers.
Year 2 teachers, please note: I have kept the age range broad to include year 2 students as they head towards year 3. You may find these activities useful as a transition activity for students as they prepare to move from year 2 to year 3. Please see the preview to decide whether you think this resource is appropriate for your particular class of year 2 students.
