Description

We have created activities to accompany the Ready to Read Phonics Plus Big Book: Frog Finds a Home. This book introduces the characters that will be found in many of the Kākano, Tupu, Māhuri, and Rākau Ready to Read Phonics Books. It follows on from the big book: The Boat Race.



We have created 12 follow-up activities to suit a range of abilities.




Activities include using and understanding suffixes, vocabulary activities (English and te reo Māori), a word find, cloze activities, syllable counts, finding the problem and solution, exploring characters, and more.


    

  • There are also QR codes for students to view videos about the specific instructional foci or about the themes of the text.

  • With initial modelling and scaffolding, these activities are intended to be completed independently to build students’ skills in following instructions and developing fine motor skills and stamina to complete a task.
    • 





This resource is intended to accompany the Ready to Read Phonics Plus series. This series is available in all New Zealand schools and on the Tahurangi website (https://tahurangi.education.govt.nz/).  The activities have been carefully designed to enhance the teaching that occurs in a shared reading context and give independent practice to the skills taught.
